San Marcos High School Band Boosters will be hosting a fundraiser and celebration from 5-9 p.m. on February 26 at Draftsmen Aleworks, 53 Santa Felicia Drive, Goleta.
The free, family-friendly event will take place outdoors, where there’s plenty of space for dancing and features live music from the band Joystix and special performances from SMHS’ award-winning Drumline and Jazz Combo.
As a special treat, Drumline will perform with Joystix on several songs from their set, something no musical group has done before.
“We’re really excited to collaborate with John Roshell and Carrie Hutchinson of Joystix on a few tracks,” said Michael Kiyoi, SMHS graduate and Director of Instrumental Music. “It’s something unusual and different for us. But it’s great to work with Joystix and write special charts (music) for our students to fun and upbeat music!
“And John and I go back a few years, since his son was in the marching band and played drums for SMHS, so it’s kind of a Royals reunion!” said Mr. Kiyoi.
In addition to music and dancing, the event will include food for sale at Rudy’s, as well as a bake sale. Raffle tickets will be sold with chances to win gift certificates for restaurants and services, drum lessons, gift baskets and more.
All proceeds from this event will support the San Marcos High School Band and help with travel expenses for the competition. The group is still accepting donations of raffle items as well as paid sponsors to support the program.
