FOR more than two years members of the Johnstone Band have been unable to perform for their beloved audiences – now the Renfrewshire organization is preparing to launch a free evening of musical creation.
The Johnstone Band’s Summer Serenade will see the top-flight brass band, led by Mark Good, perform at the Johnstone Castle Community Learning Centre, Pine Crescent, today at 7.30pm.
On the program, a diversified repertoire including pop tunes, songs from musicals and original music for brass band. Several of the group’s soloists will also be in the spotlight as they take center stage.
Looking ahead to the evening, Music Director Mark Good said: “After the challenges of the Covid-19 pandemic, it was a wonderful feeling to return to the band room with Johnstone Band to make music together.
“It’s about playing in front of an audience and we can’t wait to take the stage at Johnstone Castle Community Learning Center for what promises to be an exciting evening of music-making – and best of all, absolutely free.”
The Johnstone Band’s summer serenade comes after the Renfrewshire organization secured their status in the elite level of the band after retaining their position in the Championships section at the Scottish Championships in Perth in March.
Now all eyes are on tonight’s concert, after which members of the Johnstone Band will enjoy a short break before looking forward to a busy second half of 2022, with a series of competitions and concerts in the works.
