the Jamestown Municipal Band will hold a series of three concerts at Bandshell Goranson in Allen Park from this Wednesday. Municipal Music Director Rick Lundquist said they were happy to be back, especially after having to cancel the 2020 concert season due to the pandemic, which was the first time they had canceled since 1954.
He said the group will play a variety of music, “And each program will cover things we’ve covered before. Different themes like children’s music, music for other special events such as patriotic music, broadway shows, jazz. And we’re going to do kind of a mix of each genre shall we say.
Lundquist said many groups across the country are doing similar hour-long programs outdoors: “And the idea is, yes, people can mingle. If you are fully vaccinated, you are not required to wear a mask unless you wish. And I’m sure there will be people with masks and people without masks. And so that’s what people want to do to be comfortable, to be together, while trying to space out a bit on the hill overlooking the bandstand.
Lundquist added the Allen Park Women’s Club expected to be at the July 28 and August 4 concerts selling refreshments to benefit Allen Park.
The Wednesday municipal band concert begins at 7 p.m. and is free and open to the public.
