Southend punk band set to wow audiences for Queen’s Platinum Jubilee

A punk band from Southend will relive the sights and sounds of the Queen’s Silver Jubilee at upcoming platinum celebrations.

Jubilee77 will play three shows in Essex, over the Bank Holiday weekend, playing only classic British punk and new wave from the Silver Jubilee period.

The quartet will perform at: The White Hart, Witham at 2pm Thursday; The Edge, Basildon, at 8 p.m. Thursday; and the Oakwood, Leigh at 9 p.m. on Saturdays. FREE ENTRANCE.

Bassist Keif Simon said: “The Silver Jubilee launched a golden era in music when Britania ruled the airwaves.

“Bands like the Clash, Jam, Police and of course the Sex Pistols helped define this period and are just as iconic as the Queen herself, to many music fans.”

Singer Lee Holliman added: “This weekend is all about celebrating the best of Britain and that’s exactly what we’re doing with our set.

“But there were a few big Essex bands from the period 1977 to 1982 that we specialized in.

“So we’re gonna do some local boy stuff, Dr. Feelgood and Eddie and the Hot Rods too.”

Guitarist Glenn Edwards said: “It’s a new project but we’ve been in different bands and projects for longer than we’d like to remember.

“So we’re looking forward to seeing some familiar faces over the weekend and some new ones as well.”

The band is completed by drummer Chris Fay. Visit for details.
